Trimestrial Modules
This course is based on the acquisition of the French language used in everyday situations. Our oral, interactive approach is both progressive and dynamic. The subject matter and situations covered are adapted to the interests and needs of the participants. Grammar –introduced in a progressive and structured way- is integrated into the communicative approach and linked to the matter and situation chosen.
The method used therefore emphasises:
- Interaction between participants, as well as between instructor and participants, in an effort to encourage increasingly autonomous involvement
- Comprehension of authentic documents, written and recorded. These documents are selected in view of the verbal interaction between participants on topics defined by the group at the beginning of the session. They represent difficulties tailored to the average level of the group.
Intensive Modules in Brussels
This course is based on the acquisition of the French language used in everyday situations. An oral, interactive approach is adopted where emphasis is placed on daily life and current news. Language is developed in a systematic and communicative way. The objective is rapid awakening of passive knowledge for building confidence and developing oral skills.
Cultural activities
Each month, we will offer you two organised cultural visits accompanied by one or more CLL instructors. These visits represent an excellent way to practice your French, to discover Belgium’s cultural riches, and to get to know other participants. The price of said visits is included in the quarterly course price. In addition, the French Department will offer you other activities in return for a contribution towards costs.
As an example, here are the visits offered in 2004-2005:
Visit to the centre of Brussels - Horta and Art Nouveau - St Guidon neighbourhood – the Belgian Comic Strip Centre – visit “from the Royal Palace to the Palace of Justice” - Beaux-Arts – Maison Autrique – the African museum at Tervuren – the Marolles and Sablon – Brussels, home to European Institutions – tour of Leuven – Brussels, international and multicultural city.
Conversation Tables in Brussels
The principle of the “conversation tables” is to offer you the opportunity to express yourself in French without the “constraints” of the classroom. In this way, you can practise the language with ease and confidence using themes and activities organised by your trainer, who is there to help “animate” each session
Living in Belgium
Have you been living in Belgium for some time and do you wish to make progress in French while discovering your new host country more in depth?
The “Living in Belgium” programme offers you in-depth knowledge of the French language through participation in thematic modules illustrated by cultural visits.
In practical terms, this programme offers you 10 thematic modules consisting of 2 hours of French classes and two hours of cultural visits.
Thematic modules illustrated by cultural visits are as follows:
• History + dynasty museum
• Gastronomy + brasserie Cantillon
• Painting + Van Buuren museum
• Brussels, the crossroads of Europe + stroll through the European quarter
• Cinema + meeting with a Belgian director
• Literature + meeting with a Belgian writer
• Politics + meeting with a politician and/or visit to Parliament
• Sculpture + visit to house where Constantin Meunier was born
• Folklore and Traditions + outing to carnival (or other folkloristic activity)
• Economy + Gaspard De Wit Factory in Malines
This course is aimed at intermediate to advanced level students.
