About inlingua
inlingua International was established in 1968 and is the largest association of privately-owned language centres in the world with around 300 centres in more than 22 countries.
Language learners worldwide choose inlingua for its high standards in its materials and methods and for its excellent and effective results.
The Pedagogical Services in Bern, Switzerland, updates and develops new teaching materials and methods for use in all inlingua centres.
inlingua Ghent is situated in a peaceful residential area on the outskirts of the city.
Crossing language barriers
Our school is open to groups and individual students from schoolchildren to company executives; from 3 to 103 years. They want to learn a new language for business purposes, study or leisure. Some students plan to move abroad, while others come from outside of Belgium. In either case students want to learn the language and the culture of their new country.
CIP: Crash Intensive Programme is offered as 20, 30, 40, 45 or 50 lessons per week or as 'total immersion': 16hrs a day with the language(teacher). You can also have lunch with a teacher for added intensity.
FFP: Frequent Flexible Programme
You can choose between 2 lessons and 40 lessons a week and you can also have lunch with a teacher for added intensity.
Levels
These six levels are an interpretation of the classic division into basic, intermediate and advanced.
The scheme proposed in the "Common European Framework of Reference: Learning, Teaching, Assessment" adopts a "Hypertext" branching principle, starting from an initial division into three broad levels:
* Basic User: A1 and A2
* Independent User: B1 and B2
* Proficient User: C1 and C2
Such a simple "Global Scale" makes it easier to communicate the system to non-specialist users and will also provide teachers and curriculum planners with orientation points.
However, in order to orient learners, teachers and other users within the educational system for some practical purpose, a more detailed overview is necessary. Such an overview is presented in the form of a Self-Assessment Grid showing major categories of language use at each of the six levels. It is intended to help learners to profile their main language skills, and decide at which level they might look at a checklist of more detailed descriptors in order to self-assess their level of proficiency.
