Arabic Language Learning
The Yemen Language Center (YLC) was the first private institution in Yemen dedicated exclusively to teaching Arabic as a foreign language. This has afforded our students the opportunity to learn Arabic in a much more effective, stimulating setting. Located in the capital city of Sana'a, the YLC has served the needs of international students, researchers, and the resident expatriate community since 1989.
The YLC's Arabic Language Learning Program is open to students of all ability levels, with program lengths from five weeks to one year. The program costs cover instruction, texts and additional Arabic language learning materials, visa extension services, transportation to and from Sana'a International Airport, cultural and historical day trips outside of Sana'a, round-trip airfare, internet usage, meals, housing and lectures on Arab history and culture. These additional activities serve to dramatically enhance the Arabic language learning experience!
Some Points on Learning Arabic at the YLC
* Standard Instruction consists of either 4 hours of group instruction per day, or 2 hours of private instruction per day, depending on total enrollment and individual student level.* Students attend classes 5 days per week.
* All Arabic language classes are capped at a maximum of six students per class. Please keep in mind that the summer terms are our busiest time of the year, so enroll as early as possible. Prior to enrollment, please take a moment to read through the Student Agreement.
* Arabic language classes are held Saturday through Wednesday. Classes will not be held during official Yemeni holidays.
* The YLC will provide a Certificate of Completion only after the successful completion of a final examination administered at the end of the course.
Cultural Activities
While studying at the Yemen Language Center, students are immersed in Yemeni culture in the form of field trips, lectures, visits to hammams and museums, weddings, and more, all as a portion of their tuition. Also, the student will inevitably be welcomed into the homes of countless Yemeni families as a part of the Arab hospitality.
