English Language College

English Language College was one of the first language schools in Christchurch, founded in 1989. We are a small school set in the centre of Christchurch. Our maximum roll is 60 students. There are no more than 10 students in a class. You will make friends with the other students very quickly. You will learn English in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where your teacher has time to help you personally with your studies.

Courses

At ELC we want you to be able to choose a course of English study that suits you.

* Study for a short time or for almost 1 year.
* General English or specific courses.

General English courses start on Monday mornings.
There's a short test on your first day so we can place you in a class that matches your ability. As you learn and gain confidence in your English, you can go to a higher-level class and challenge yourself to do your best.

Optional Courses

As well as our General English courses you'll be able to choose some optional courses that we run in the afternoons (subject to minimum numbers).

* If you want to work in New Zealand you can get a head start by taking the Employment English course which teaches you the skills you need to find paid and voluntary work. Study English for 6 weeks and learn work skills in the afternoon, then experience at least 2 weeks of voluntary or paid employment. If we don't find you voluntary or paid employment at the end of your 6 weeks of study, we will re-fund your work placement fees!
* We have an English for Business course which has three start dates each year. The course runs for 10 weeks and you will learn all about the business English which will help you in your working life.
* We also have an English for Seniors course where you can do other activities in the afternoons which we can arrange for you like Golf lessons, floristry, or gardening.
