Instituto Cultural Oaxaca

The Instituto offers classes which include a solid grammatical base and communicative functions, presented within a cultural context which allows the student to develop the four language skills: oral expression, written expression, auditory comprehension and reading comprehension. The classes are given exclusively in Spanish and the groups do not exceed 10 students.

All of our teachers are native speakers, hold university degrees, and have years of teaching experience.

In our classes, the teachers evaluate the students throughout the entire learning process, which allows the student to receive feedback and to self-evaluate. Together, the teacher and the student implement teaching strategies in order to facilitate language acquisition. For students who need credit, we do a close observation of the students’ progress in order to give them grades, which may serve as credit for a university course.

Excursions

In order to maximize the student’s cultural immersion, the Instituto Cultural Oaxaca offers a variety of optional tours to outlying villages and archaeological sites on weekends. Oaxaca counts with some of the most diverse artisan goods and one of the richest histories in all of Mexico. With their focus on the continuity of Oaxacan culture, tours are an excellent way to become acquainted with the Central Valleys of Oaxaca.

Tours, which include transportation to the sites as well as the services of a bilingual guide, leave from the front gate of the Institute and last between four to five hours. Students should bring their own refreshments and snacks, as there is no lunch break. Comfortable walking shoes and sun block are highly recommended. Tours leave the Instituto Cultural Oaxaca at 9am and typically return around 1:30pm.
