General English

* Flexible dates (enrol at the start of any week for any number of weeks)
* Study full-time (25 hours per week) or part-time (15 hours per week - mornings only; or 10 hours per week - afternoons only)
* All levels from elementary to upper intermediate or advanced
* New students take a placement test designed by the School to suit its own classes
* Reports every six weeks, and a certificate for all students with good attendance

Morning classes - Progressive English (PE)

* Based on an internationally-recognised coursebook
* Development of the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing
* Systematic teaching of grammar and vocabulary in a lively and interesting way
* Active practice of everything learnt (including pair work and group work)
* Progress tests every two weeks, and interviews with the teacher

Afternoon classes - English For Communication (EFC)

* Development of vocabulary and functions based on a particular topic each week
* Work set at different levels
* The active practice of English in various situations
* A lot of speaking
* "Thursday options" - choose a subject of particular interest for just one afternoon, including, at different times: English for work in New Zealand; Maori culture; life in New Zealand; pronunciation; reading for pleasure; travel in New Zealand; examination skills

Activities:
Southern English Schools are famous for their programme of activities and excursions. Our own staff take most of the activities.
We offer:
* 3 activities a week after school plus a free lecture after school
* A day trip every weekend.
* A full weekend excursion once a month
