Our Courses. Here at Spanish School Arequipa we believe that individulized lesson plans custom tailored to your level and needs is the most efficent use of your short time studying with us. Below is the general outline of our courses. At your arrival, you and your teachers will decide on a more specific plan. Survival Course. Your first step. Designed for travellers with little to no Spanish experience but wanting to learn how to 'get around town'. This course will teach you the minimum basics to feel comfortable while travelling around South America. Basic verbs, contextual vocabulary, typical travel dialog, asking directions, making travel plans and using currency are themes included. Also, a strong emphasis is placed on pronunciation. One week is minimum, however, two weeks is the best. After two weeks of classes, you can take the Basic formal course if you would like to continue studying. Standard Course. For those with some Spanish and formal class experience. Three levels focusen on the development of grammar and conversation skills. In the Basic level, your educational plan also includes learning about Arequipa, surrounding cities like Puno and Cusco and the cultural aspects of Peru. You review grammatical stuctures, strength in pronunication, social and common conversation and writing skills. Recommmened period: two weeks. Best, four weeks. Intermediate usually focuses in conversational themes selected by student, without forgeting a review of week grammar aspects. After a placement exam, the teachers will prepare material and contents. A strong placement is put on correct pronunciation, tense usage and comprehension. Recommended period- one to four weeks. Advanced level is for people with a strong knowledge of Spanish; can understand most readings, write simple reports about familiar themes and use Spanish in professional situations. You will improve your skills plus learn about the details of the language. Strong emphasis placed on discussing social and professional themes. Professionals can ask to focus on special vocabulary and uses for their activities. Group courses Group course is only available if two to four students with the same level of Spanish requires it. If you are thinking on a group course please be aware that individual course will give you more for your money and time. If price is your concern, our individual course costs the same other schools charges you for group ones. Accommodation Casadeavila, the school grounds and hotel, offers you a more independent accommodation option making it possible for you to program your time as you see fit, plan your activities and follow your own rules. With Casadeavila being just three walking blocks to the Plaza de Armas, you will be close to all the attractions and services that Arequipa has to offer. Our property consists of a large Colonial-style building that hosts 17 rooms, both single and double beds available, and all rooms face our beautiful garden (complete with resident turtle!). All rooms include a private bathroom, cable TV and complimentary breakfast in our cafeteria. Also, all other services of Casadeavila are included too, like internet access, cafeteria, phone for local and international calls, library, kitchen and laundry facilities.
